Operation after Release¶
After the release of the game using Strix Cloud, operate the servers daily.
Checking servers are running¶
Use your Applications Dashboard to monitor daily that all servers are running.
If servers get too heavy, allocating more server instances will lower the loads. See Tuning Parameters for details.
Also check usages and bandwidths of your server instances on Usage Page. You can get the idea how much fees you will be charged for Strix Cloud.
Restarting servers¶
The STRIX server is designed to run for a long time. However, it could somehow go malfunctioning, and it is recommended to restart the servers on Strix Cloud when you stop your game service, e.g., for a maintenance.
You can restart servers on Servers Page.
Backup¶
The STRIX server employs a non-dedicated server architecture, and it stores no game-specific persistent data on the servers, which frees you up from backup jobs. Strix Cloud doesn’t provide any backup function.
Updating STRIX server versions¶
New versions of STRIX servers will be released from time to time. They will be made available on Strix Cloud, but the STRIX servers used by existing applications will never be updated automatically.
However, some of the updates may contain various bug fixes including security issues, and we recommend to always use the most recent server version. You can update your STRIX server by changing Strix server version on Options Page on your Applications Dashboard and clicking on the Save button.
Please note the following when you are actually updating the STRIX server actually under being used by a game, though:
When you change Strix server version on your Applications Dashboard, all servers in your application restart, disconnecting clients.
Some versions of servers may limit the STRIX’s SDK versions used together. Check the SDK version your game client is using. Such limitations are described on the release notes.
Some server behavior may change as a result of a bug fix. Please verify your existing game clients run correctly in combination with the new version of the servers beforehand.
Certificate renewal¶
When using WSS (Secure WebSocket), a STRIX server requires a server certificate.
Each server instance uses a certificate acquired by Strix Cloud, which is renewed periodically. After the renewal of its server certificate, a server that is using WSS needs to be restarted. The restart disconnects all running clients, so it is a user’s job to restart their server at a game title’s operational convenience.
A new certificate will be made available at least two months before the expiration of the existing certificate. Then the user will need to restart their server instances before the existing certificate expires.
